A bit about me

If you're a parent worrying about how home education might be for your family, I hear you. Although we choose to home ed our sons now, my first foray into home ed with my teenage stepson in 2013 was with very little preparation and no real idea of where to start. I was on maternity leave with a 3-month-old baby when my stepson came out of school for two terms. So I know how daunting those first steps can be.

First of all, relax!! Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed or don't know where to turn for help. Maybe you've got a list as long as your arm of websites where you can access resources. Maybe you've seen other people's posts about what their home ed life looks like and are worried about how to replicate their success.

Take it from me, you don't need any of those things. You already have all you need in your own home. Your child already has all he or she needs to learn at home because they have YOU. Not only are you enough, you are more than enough. With you, they learnt to take their first steps, utter their first words. This is just the natural extension of those early days, helping them to fulfil their true potential. Remember to take delight in your child's discoveries and together you will find your way.

Whatever has brought you to home education, I suggest that on your first morning you take a leisurely breakfast (or even brunch!!) together, including a large cup of coffee for Mum or Dad! Ask each child to think of one thing they are thankful for in this moment and invite them to tell you what that might be. Ask each child to fetch one thing from around the house that they would like to share with you over the course of the day. It could be a book, it could be a board game, it could be an app on the tablet that you never have time to do with them. Whatever it is, accept it in the spirit it is offered. Spend some time with each child on the activity they have chosen, giving them your undivided attention. If that is all you manage to do tomorrow, you have successfully started your home ed adventure!

Enjoy every precious moment with your child and see this time as the amazing opportunity it can be.
